Pretty morning walk

Love those early morning walks with Sindolf. This time of year Holland is beautifull. The cold nights and the warm ground make beautiful fog. Feels like walking in a dream.

The kitchen before being removed, a wise call

Joe is peeling of the wallpaper, which is hard people

Stuc those walls!

For the last few weeks we have been working on our new house. There is a lot to tell but for now let me show some pictures which illustrate our hard and sometimes almost impossible labour!

Love that pizzabox

I think this pizza box looks great. The reason I bought this box with two pizza's is simply cause of the design. Never thought the pizza it self would be pretty decent as well.

Dead Set

As much as I love zombie films as much I hate big brother and trust me when I say "I LOVEEEEE ZOMBIES!!!". It was very surpsing to hear about the English show "Dead Set". A zombie tv show which takes places during athe big brother show. I had to see it whith my own eye's so last weekend I sat down and watched all five episodes in one row. This show had some scary intense stuff in it. Some pretty awesome gore. The first episode was great. It showed how this girl girl named Pippa lost the big brother round and was kicked out of the house. This Pippa is one stupid ignorant chick, I dont know if she played her part with true conviction or if she really was that stupid. The people in the Big Brother house were of the typical Big Brother kind. I really couldn't stand their ignorance, slefishness and stupidity. There my criticism about dead set lies. I couldn't relate to any of the characters. I found them all very annoying and irritating, the only one I liked was Riq played by Riz Ahmed, a sweet guy who moves heaven and earth to get to his girlfriend who works in the big brother studio. His girl who in the first episode cheats on him with a soon to become zombie guy.

The last episode was awesome. I could sit and enjoy how all the people who irritated me during the five episodes of dead set died horrible deaths. Limbs were thorn, blood splatted out every wound and the great looking zombies feasted of the flesh of the oh so stupid big brother crew. I was reliefd Riq simply got shot and died a rather peaceful death.

I had my fun with dead set but it was a shame the cast was over irritating. The movie would have been shocking if the above would have happend to sweet decent folk but then again we are taking big brother here and I have never seen a sympethatic character on that show. Taking that for grantege I can say it was an awesome cynical show putting the big brother show hanged out to dry... nicely done lads!

Sinterklaas before Christianity

Here in Holland we still celebrate the Sinterklaas feast. I love it and I have always loved it. I have to admit Sinterklaas is more special when you are a kid or when you have kids. There is nothing so cool as to see the awe on youru childeren's faces when they stand before Sinterklaas.

I took the Sinterklaas feast for as it was and I never realised where the tradition came from. About ten years ago I read this book about the origin of this Sinterklaas feast and it is a way older and darker celebration then I could imagine. When Christianity arrived in the West of Europe the church took over the holy places. The pagan relion was one of worshipping the nature and trees where honoured. So on the holy places the christians would build chuches and they pagan god's were turned in to saints or demons. Poor Thor with his horns and goat legs became the devil while the supreme pagan god Wotan (or Odin) became the story of a Christian saint named Saint Nicolas.

Wotan was the god of life, death and war. The god that rode, on his horse Sleipnir, on the rooftops of the houses of the people too keep them save and to collect the souls of the death. Wotan was accompanied by his two wolfs and his two raven. The feathers worn by black Pete today symbolise Wotan's raven companions. On Sinterklaas it is said to the childeren if you have been good you will get candy but if you have been bad Sinterklaas will take you to Spain. Taking this back to Wotan it resembles the wild hunt. An army of souls under the leadership of Wotan himself who brought the souls of the wicked to hell.

Sinterklaas today a harmy folklore for childeren with a much deeper and darker past whick should be remembered and respected.
